It started with a teenager – a boy who knew he was different from others. “Not normal,” is what some would say. He liked to wear diapers and drink from bottles and crawl on the floor. He longed for a crib. Anything baby was interesting to him. He hid it all because he knew it wasn’t normal and he must be the only one who was crazy like that. He found out that he wasn’t alone – there were others just like him! They were called adult babies. He couldn’t find out a lot at first because they were adults and he was not, but as soon as he was he started to learn about this world…. Lots of people who liked what he did, in varying degrees. There were Adult Babies. They loved, like he did, anything to do with babyhood. Now they participated in that in different levels. Some used their diapers, some did not. Some didn’t mind others knowing, some would guard the secret with everything. And so on. There were Diaper Lovers. They didn’t want to be a BABY, they just liked diapers. Some as a humiliation device, others as a comfort device, and still others as a control device. And for awhile that was it. He had the knowledge others existed, he wore his diapers, he had his baby items, and sometimes he relaxed in that way and it was nobody’s business. Then, the internet came along. There was more info he learned, and stories… SO many stories. He liked reading those. Even wrote a few. Then photos became easier to share and in some cases it became a business venture that some followed. And then audios and videos … up to where we are now. In all that, he learned that people, even if they share something like this in their identities, are STILL different. Sometimes, this may be the only thing that they had in common with one another, and it’s not always enough on which to build a relationship. Later on, that lesson would become more important. The story of course is about me. That is the past of it and it’s like many others. You may have read it and saw yourself in those words, having had the same thoughts and fears and feelings. Nevertheless, I am me, and some choices I made may not be the choices you would have. I seek in this memoir to do several things. One, I want to chronicle what it was like for people like me in the time period of the infancy of the Internet. How we found one another, how we grew, and sometimes, how we failed and fell. Second, I seek to give an account for myself – who I am and what I am and as much as I can, WHY I am the way I am. Third, I seek to forgive and release. Yes, I still hold on to some anger about the way certain things happened. In many cases those against whom I would harbor that anger are dead – they can’t even do anything in regard to it. If I write about it, I am hoping to release it and be able to acknowledge that yes, that happened, and maybe it was wrong, but it is in the past now. Fourth, there have GOT to be others out there who were hurt or are hurting in the same way I was. This writing may help them, and if it does, then it is all worth it.
